Sample Incoming Exchange Schedule

The following material was clipped from a previous exchange so those who are
interested can view possible activities of an incoming exchange.


Day 1:

Pick up Ambassadors from the airport
Arrivals from London will be in Terminal 5, lower lever --- we will meet them after they have gone through customs. All arrival locations and times should be checked with the airline on the arrival day --- by you! Hosts should be there by 3:45 with a 9X12 placard to identify yourself and wear your FF badge. If your guest is not arriving with the main group please check with Meg Tomlin!!!!!

Day 2:

9:30 AM --- Meet at east entrance of Babcock Center(Lake Co. Jail), just south of Washington St., in downtown Waukegan. Several parking lots and/or garages are within a block or two. Retired Judge Bill Homer will give us a tour of the jail and Lake Co. Courthouse. We will give you directions to the Yacht Club while we are at the Court House. (Ludwina Homer, Chair)
12:30 PM --- Lunch at Waukegan Yacht Club, 199 Harbor Pl. Lunch is prepaid and reserved. Beverages are on an individual basis please be sure that you and/or your ambassador are prepared. (Renate Martin, Chair)
3:15 PM --- Tram ride of the main island gardens at the Botanic Gardens. The tram ride itself will include ambassadors only, as the tram holds 18 persons. Plan to explore the Japanese Gardens, Rose Garden and English Walled Garden before or after the tram tour. We are looking into the affordability of including the special model train exhibit also. Day 3:

8:50 AM --- Chicago Tour. Meet in parking area near Libertyville Township Hall to board coach. We'll travel to Chicago, meet our step-on guide for tour; later go to Navy Pier for a late lunch on your own (Ambassadors will be given $10.00 to spend on lunch); next, to observation deck at John Hancock Building. Will arrive back at Libertyville Township Hall approx. 6:00 PM. We'll bring snacks for morning tour; please bring beverages of your choice.(Phil Tomlin, Chair)

Day 4:

Morning is free free (you and your guests can do as you please).
2:00 PM --- F.F.N.IL. Annual Picnic. It will be at the Half Day Forest Preserve, Shelter A; the preserve is a bit north of Half Day (Rt. 22) on the east side of Milwaukee Ave. (Rt. 21)
Bring a dish to share (sidedish, salad or dessert) for 8 to 10 people. Chicken, beverages and table service will be provided. (Eleanore Hawkins, Ludwina Homer, Meg Tomlin, Chairs)

Monday July 3:

Free Day. If you need ideas, remember to consider Milwaukee, Lake Geneva WI, more of Chicago, Ravinia, Long Grove, Cuneo Museum, Lake Co. Museum, Gurnee Mills.

Day 4 July 4:

INDEPENDENCE DAY!!
Please plan to join friends, family or neighbors at home or in your community for special celebrations. Our ambassadors are really counting on Independence Day celebrations with you -- fireworks, parades, picnics, all that goes into an old-fashioned Fourth! If you need ideas, there is a super parade in the AM in Lake Bluff and great fireworks in libertyville and Vernon Hills around 9:00 PM. Ask around for more ideas.

Day 5:

10:30 AM --- Lipizzan Horse Show at Tempel Farms in Wadsworth, 17000 Wadsworth Rd., west of Wadsworth (also west of Rt. 21 and Rt. 41). Signs will guide you after you get on Wadsworth Road. Try to be there 10 or 15 minutes a head of time. (Lou Cox, Chair)
12:30 or 1:00 PM --- Lunch at M. Finns, 412 N. Milwaukee, Libertyville, directly across from the downtown Cook Park. We will be eating upstairs there, just tell them you're with the Friendship Force group.
Afternoon is free.
Some ideas: --- Explore Main Street of Libertyville shops, the newly restored rose garden across from M. Finns, Cuneo Museum about 2 - 3 miles south on Rt. 21, The Hawthorne shopping center just a little farther south on Rt. 21, East of Libertyville at Rt. 176 and the tollway is Lambs Farm a unique attraction in the area. Day 6:

DEPARTURE for Calgary (and the Lethbridge exchange). American Airlines#829 to Calgary is scheduled to leave at 11:50 AM from Terminal 3 at O'Hare. Check-in 2 hours ahead of time is required by the airline. Please phone them (1-800-7300) for further information and to confirm exact time and location a day ahead.

Meg will not be available from June 17 - 24. Please check with her before June 17 if you have questions.
